A 90-year-old folk house guesthouse at dusk by the sea
A small inn by the coast

By the sea,
in unhurried time.

A small 8-guest inn in a quiet port town on the Seto Inland Sea. Wake to birdsong and the sound of waves; spend the evening beneath the stars, sharing stories with fellow travelers.

About the Inn

An inn that feels like a second home.

A 90-year-old traditional folk house, gently renovated for modern travelers. The original beams, doors, and timberwork remain — bedding, plumbing, and insulation have been carefully updated.

The sea is a two-minute walk away. Borrow a bicycle and ride out to the lighthouse, or wander the small shopping street nearby.

About

About the inn

Yado Akari is a small guesthouse run by a husband-and-wife team — a former Tokyo editor and a chef from this town, who took over the house in 2020.

There are only three rooms. At check-in, we share our favorite local eateries and quiet walking paths — places untouched by the tourist trail.

The old folk house has been kept beautifully — original timber and atmosphere intact, while the plumbing and bedding feel brand new and immaculate. The hosts took us to a local restaurant we never would have found on our own. The kids loved it, and we already plan to come back next year.

I stayed in the dormitory, but each bed is partitioned almost like a private nook — privacy was well preserved. The shared common room had a nice atmosphere for meeting other travelers. Perfect for solo trips.

Being a 90-year-old folk house, winter mornings are a little cool — but the bedding and heating were more than enough. You truly get to experience the texture of the building. The tamago kake gohan at breakfast was unforgettable.

We booked out the whole inn for four. The living room is huge — we brought drinks and talked late into the night, then rode the bicycles to the lighthouse the next morning. A perfect memory.
